Containing the papers of the 10th International Conference on Structural Safety and Reliability (ICOSSAR2009, Osaka, Japan), this work covers safety and reliability of structures and systems in civil, marine, mechanical, transportation, and aerospace systems. A special focus is placed on advanced technologies, analytical and computational risk analysis, probability-based design and regulations, smart systems and materials, life cycle cost analysis, damage assessment, social aspects, and commercial applications. Emerging concepts and novel applications of reliability principles in all types of structural systems and mechanical components are included. In addition to the text, all of the papers are included on a fully searchable CD-ROM.
This book aims to promote the study, research and applications in the design, assessment, prediction, and optimal management of life-cycle performance, safety, reliability, and risk of civil structures and infrastructure systems. The contribution in each chapter presents state-of-the-art as well as emerging applications related to key aspects of the life-cycle civil engineering field. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of Structure and Infrastructure Engineering.
Life-Cycle of Structural Systems: Design, Assessment, Maintenance and Management contains the papers presented at IALCCE2014, the fourth International Symposium on Life-Cycle Civil Engineering (IALCCE2014), held in Tokyo, Japan, November 16-19, 2014. It consists of a book of extended abstracts (466 pp) and a DVD (2332 pp) with 312 full papers including the Fazlur R. Khan lecture, 7 keynote lectures, and 304 technical papers from 38 countries. All major aspects of life-cycle engineering are addressed, with special focus on structural damage processes, life-cycle design, inspection, monitoring, assessment, maintenance and rehabilitation, life-cycle cost of structures and infrastructures, life-cycle performance of special structures, and life-cycle oriented computational tools. The aim of the editors is to provide a valuable source for anyone interested in life-cycle of civil infrastructure systems, including students, researchers and practitioners from all areas of engineering and industry.

This book comprises most of the papers presented at the First US/Japan Workshop on Life-Cycle Cost Analysis and Design of Civil Infrastructure Systems, held in Honolulu, Hawaii, August 7-8, 2000, and several invited contributions, mostly from Europe. The 18 papers cover a wide range of studies on life-cycle cost analysis, design, maintenance and management of civil infrastructure systems. Contributions are from a range of internationally recognized researchers and practicing structural engineers from the United States, Japan, and Europe. Topics include: conceptual design of structural systems; time-variant reliability of structures; structural health monitoring and symptom-based reliability; monitoring and testing for fatigue prediction; lifetime reliability profiles for fatigue and corrosion; maintenance planning for road pavements and structures; maintenance planning of reinforced concrete decks; bridge management systems; optimized and conventional bridges; optimal planning of maintenance and inspection; life-cycle cost assessment for bridge maintenance; specifications to aid life-cycle cost analyses; maintenance cost of deteriorating civil infrastructures; probabilistic models of cost for management of existing structures; and user cost and its applications to bridge management systems. This book will be invaluable to all concerned with life-cycle costing of civil infrastructure systems.
